Last Year!!
What a difference a year makes!! I know this saying is constantly said by a lot of people. I've been saying and thinking it a lot.
This time last year I not only just celebrated my 30th birthday but we were starting to share our news of not just one baby but TWO!! My family of course knew right away but it was my husband's side to know. My husband and I believe we shared the news Mother's Day weekend. We were all excited. I had made it out of the first trimester with no problems and both kids were looking good. We were just counting the weeks until we got to know what their sexes were. Since I was getting an ultra sound everytime I was in the office we loved tried to guess.
We of course didn't get to know until almost 19 weeks. It was at this ultra sound that we got a change of news. It was announced at this appointment that Baby A was a girl and Baby B was a boy. Our excitement was overshadowed though with the news that Baby B was showing signs that his growth was slowing down. It was too early for this to happen. My doctor was calm however and wasn't that worry at this appointment. She did send me to an ultra specialist just to give them a baseline. She just wanted them to take a look but didn't think I would need to go to them again.
3 weeks later he still hadn't grown as much as his sister so a second visit to the specialist was in order. By 24 weeks, my little boy was measuring almost 3 weeks behind his sister. The only thing we thought it was at this point was I wasn't producing enough blood for the three of us. I had been on restricted activity and bed rest already so my only option was hospital bed rest and constant monitoring. When I got to the hospital I was told that my little boy wasn't growing because his cord for some reason was not getting enough blood flow.
To make a long story short, at 29 weeks, his cord decided it didn't want even the blood it was getting so the doctors had to pull both kids out.
Alyssa Jade was born at 2lbs 7ozs.
Andrew Roy was born at 1lb 14ozs
Both were small but came out fighting. Alyssa spent almost 3 months in the unit and Andrew spent 3 months. He came home Christmas Day!! It was the best gift we got this year. They both are.
